There
When the rains fell even the broken clouds looked too blue— the far starlight and the planets moving like small bulbs in an empty room. There was a sound— the soft maw opened and it all rushed out. Later, when the lights faded and the flashes dimmed, the wind turned ceaselessly through the trees. There was a cavern— a place of soft mud and sand and the toilsome silence of no sound. There was a light— a gentle play on shadows, a glimmer, a hope. Then there was tomorrow.
